The Lower Dolpo Trek is meant for real adventurers wishing for an off-the-beaten-path experience. This remote region in western Nepal was opened for the foreigners only in 1990. The trek passes through Shey-Phoksundo National Park with spectacular mountain scenery, Buddhist monasteries and yak caravans. Our trek takes us through a wooded area, then load through rugged canyons in the barren plateau near the border with Tibet. After your arrival in Kathmandu, make a historical and cultural tour of Kathmandu valley and monuments while we obtain special permit for the lower Dopla trekking. Then we take our flight to Jhupal via Nepalgunj. Experience the high altitude tundra and rocks and the microclimate of Lower Dolpo and Phoksumdo with the cold air of the glaciers of Kanjiroba.
Day 01: Arrive to Kathmandu (1300m)
Our company representative will pick up you from International airport at Kathmandu and you will be transferred to hotel at Kathmandu which is just 20 25 minutes driving distance.
Day 02: City tour
Our city guide will take you to historical places around Kathmandu valley which is also listed on world heritage sites by UNESCO. In the evening you will be given general information about trekking regarding Do and Dons during trekking and daily routine / schedule will be given to you by our tour guide every day evening.
Day 03: Fly from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj & transfer to Hotel
From Kathmandu we fly an hour to the Nepalgunj, the western region of Nepal. It’s a land with both plain and hills nearby India border where we can observe Hindu and Muslim cultures and get ready for next days flight.
Day 04: Fly from Nepalgunj to Juphal (2,320m) & trek to Dunai (2,850m)
In the morning after breakfast, we take 45 minutes morning flight to Juphal, which offers you to observe the high mountains such as Annapurna and Dhaulagiri summit. After landing from the flight, our first day’s adventure begins through the terraced fields to the Bheri River and the narrow ravine after 3-4 hours walking. Then first day’s camp Dunai can be reached.
Day 05: Trek to Tarakot (2,543m)
We take break fast then start our trek beside the bank of the river heading forward following good trail through Deep gorges , suspension bridges and rural villages. Crossing wonderful pine forest and old trail built about seven meter above the river Tarakot village can be reached, which a beautiful village is having colorful terraced field.
Day 06: Trek to Laini Odar (3,160 m)
We step forward our journey following the Tarap chu river upstream, crossing the two of that same river. The trail goes through the farm and rural settlements. The famous Sandul Gompa lies farther east from Tarakot and at the junction of Barbung Khola and Tarup Chu Rriver. The walk finally takes us to our camp Laini Odar , after descend walking of 6-7 hours.
Day 07: Trek to Nawarpani (3475 m)
In the morning, we continue step forwards to the Tarap River, which goes in ascending order from steep slopes. The journey will be interesting as the valley becomes narrow gorge that in some places you can jump from one side to another. Following this exciting trail and after 7-8 hours walking we can reach to Nawar Pani which is also known as Pibuk.
Day 08: Trek to Langa Camp (4010 m)
After breakfast we head forward to the Langa camp which takes 7-8 hours of walking along side the Tarap River. Crossing the Toltal, Gyamgar and Sisul we ran reach to the tree less area of Langa Kharka.
Day 09: Trek to Do Tarap (3944 m)
As always, our walk begins after breakfast, following a gradual ascending trail next from Tarap river keeping this river on our left hand side, which is flowing from the east. After few hours walking through the narrow gorge, we will be reached to the place over the tree lines which are typical of dry inner Himlayan valleys. After additional 3 hours walking we can reach to the village of Dho Tarap which surrounded by an old stone wall. In this Valley we can observe both Bon Po and Chaiba sects.
Day 10: Rest day at Do Tarap
This day we spend here at Do Tarap to acclimatize our body with high altitude environment, which is very important. This day we can visit around Do Tarap and also some monasteries and enjoy the breathtaking views of unique landscape. We can also study and be familiar with the local people and the culture. Buddhist is the major religion of this area and the people of the region are both Bon Po and Nyingmapa.
Day 11: Trek to Numa La Base Camp (4440m):
After an incredible time at Do Tarap, we move ahead towards upper part of Tarap valley, the journey follows in this plain valley with patched of lush verdant grass on both sides of the river, which is a unique and totally different from other parts of inner Dolpo. This days’ walk follows the Tarap Chu upstream all the way. After few hours’ good walk it takes us to the village of Tokyu, where we can get information about Chiba sect in an old monastery. After this village our walk heads further to Numa-la. We have to walk totally 5-6 hours on this day.
Day 12: Cross Numa La [5,190m, and camp at Pelung Tang (4455 m)
After breakfast we move from the camp and continue our walking to Pelthung after crossing Numa La pass (5238 m) the track leads to steep slope upward all the way to the top of Numa la with fantastic view around. From the top of Numa La we will descend down to Pelung Tang. This is one of the long and difficult days during the trek.
Day 13: Cross Baga La (5,100 m) & trek to Dajok Tang (4,090 m)
Our journey starts after break fast and we walk through a steep ascending to reach the ridge top of Baga-La (5100 m) which offers very fascinating view of the Himalayan landscape and of the distant bright white peaks of Kanjirowa Himal range. After an unforgettable moment at the pass, Dajok Tang can be reached after three hours of walking through the downhill.
Day 14: Trek to Ringmo (3,610 m)
This day, we start our journey through the pine forest on leaving the forest behind the country and the vegetation changes for pasture field and alpine shrubs most of the way to Ringmo on the gradual slopes with few ups and downs as we reach our main destination at Ringmo.
Day 15: Rest Day at Ringmo and visit to Phoksundo Lake
We take this day for rest to acclimatize our body with the high altitude environment and optional hike around Ringmo for exploration. W e go to visit to monastery and also visit the Phoksundo Lake, which is the deepest lake of the country. We sit right on the shore of the spectacular Phoksundo Lake here we can see also the Yak’s caravans heading in and out of Ringmo on their way north towards the border of Tibet.
Day 16: Trek to Renchi (2940 m)
From Ringmo we follow the trail downward to Renchi which can be reached after average walking of 6 hours. On the way we also have look the local settlements Polam (3397 m) and Amchi Hospital and Sindhuwa.
Day 17: Trek to Chhepka (2720 m)
We start trek walking downhill to Chepka and from there the trail follows the surprising overhanging rock. In this area we find various important medicinal mineral which is believed to cure most of illness. Along side the Phoksundo river we walk to Chhepka crossing two bridges of same Phoksundo river.
Day 18: Dunai ( 2140 m)
Walking toward south through a trail parallel with the river Phoksundo, the camp Dunai can be reached, which is the District administrative headquarter. The river Phoksundo is known as Suli khola from the lower part when the river Majaba meets it near by shyanta. We cross Shyangta, Kageni and Sulighat and then we reach to Dunai after totally 7 hours average walking.
Day 19: Trek to Juphal
Following the trail gradually sloping upwards, we march towards Juphal. We meet tall birch trees on our way. From atop the ridge, we can observe the most spectacular view of the mountain and Jupal area. Utmost caution is required while trekking along this trail. After reaching Jhupal, we can visit around market town to know about local daily activities of the locals.
Day 20: Fly to Kathmandu via Nepalgunj
From Juphal we take a flight Juphal to Nepalgunj. After arriving Nepalgunj, we return to Kathmandu on the next available flight and you will be transferred to hotel in Kathmandu and you can make your time more relaxing.
Day 21: Reserve day
This is the day for looking around city and also for buying something as per your interest. We will have farewell dinner all together in Kathmandu on this evening.
Day 22: Departure
This day we will come to hotel and take you to airport on your given time for the final departure to home with wishing you a nice journey.
